- Earliest travel memories: camping with my family (once a month, every month, throughout my entire childhood)
- Favorite camp spot as a kid: Dinkey Creek (in the Sierra National Forest)
- First career ambition: truck driver (because they get to travel)
- Longest time en route to one destination: 35 hours (California to Malawi)
- Longest period of continuous wandering: 8 months (Mexico, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Ecuador)
- Dumbest move: knowingly running toward quicksand
- Most predictable outcome: sinking in quicksand (up to my waist)
- Most trouble accessing cash abroad: Nicaragua
- Moment of whitest knuckles: driving from Oaxaca to Puerto Escondido on a serpentine, cliff-clinging road
- Most unexpected play date: a two-hour encounter with a family of wild monkeys in the Ecuadorian jungle
- Moment of highest anxiety on the road: realizing I was in the path of a pack of wild dogs in Malawi, after deciding to forgo the rabies shot (thank you, baboons, for distracting them)
- Times my luggage has been lost (but always found): 3
- Favorite travel book: “Vagabonding” by Rolf Potts
- Other favorite travel book: “A Walk in the Woods” by Bill Bryson
